（review based on an ARC） Simply put， splendid。 A neat， synthetic presentation of the evolution of human societies mostly around the Mediterranean， with plenty of intriguing tidbits to keep the reader turning the pages for more。 From the prehistoric statelets to the Black Death， with a short final chapter going a bit beyond that。 Very much recommended。
